El Museo del Barrio, founded by a coalition of Puerto Rican educators, artists, and activists, is the nation’s leading Latino and Latin American cultural institution. The Museum welcomes visitors of all backgrounds to discover the artistic landscape of these communities through its extensive Permanent Collection, varied exhibitions and publications, bilingual public programs, educational activities, festivals, and special events.
SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF ROLE
El Museo del Barrio seeks a highly organized and collaborative Coordinator, School Programs to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of K–12 learning initiatives connected to the Museum’s exhibitions and cultural mission. This role plays a central part in ensuring that school visits, classroom programs, and educator programs are executed with care, clarity, and professionalism, contributing to a welcoming and meaningful experience for students, teachers, and teaching artists.
Working closely with the Manager of K–12 Learning & School Programs, the School Programs Coordinator will help manage day-to-day education program operations and support the development of systems that enable the growth and sustainability of school participation in El Museo del Barrio’s education projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Coordination & Operations
- Coordinate scheduling, logistics, and communication for school visits, workshops, and educator programs.
- Maintain program calendars, registration systems, and internal tracking processes that support effective planning and delivery.
- Support the onboarding, scheduling, and coordination of teaching artists involved in school programs.
- Prepare program materials, resources, and spaces in collaboration with relevant departments.
- Serve as a primary point of contact during school visits, ensuring smooth program flow and a positive experience for visiting groups.
- Liaise with Visitor Services, Security, and other teams to support effective group management and gallery logistics.
- Troubleshoot day-of operational issues and support teaching artists and educators as needed.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of curriculum resources and educator materials related to exhibitions and learning initiatives.
- Support program documentation, evaluation, and reporting processes.
- Facilitate learning activities or program components as assigned.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of internal systems related to program scheduling, communication, and delivery.
- Maintain accurate records of program participation and assist with data collection for reporting and assessment purposes.
- Support cross-departmental coordination to ensure alignment between school programs and institutional priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Arts Administration, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in museum education, arts programming, or educational program coordination.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly in working with educators, students, and teaching artists.
- Demonstrated interest in culturally responsive education and interdisciplinary arts learning.
- Ability to remain calm and solution-oriented in fast-paced program settings.
- Background in Latinx, Latin American, Caribbean, or diasporic cultural contexts.
- Spanish/English bilingual skills highly desirable.
Salary Range: $60,000-$65,000

A TransitChek/MetroCard commuter plan is currently offered to eligible full-time employees. El Museo currently extends a 10% discount to employees on all museum shop merchandise.
Paid time off includes thirteen (13) holidays, ten (10) vacation days, two (2) personal days, and ten (10) sick days.
